Local Authors produce a New Play

07 September 2017

Written by two local authors Lou Beckett and David Elder the plot revolves around the meeting of Alfred Lord Tennyson and Charles Dickens who were both in Cheltenham at the same time in the 1850's.

The cast includes Elizabeth Barrett (prior to her marriage to Robert Browning) and a fictitious character Ida.    Squawk the parrot also plays a role and is factual as Tennyson purchased it off the station master at Cheltenham railway station where it was known for announcing the times of the trains.  ie "2.38 to Birmingham platform 2".   He was reputed to have taught Squawk to speak his poetry.

This work has received local arts council and local history society funding and so is being given a professional production at Chapel Arts Centre, Knapp Rd, Cheltenham .
3 performances - 7th Sept at 4pm and 8th Sept 4pm and 7.30pm (the bar will be open from 6.30 for the 7.30 performance).

As it is being staged as a Heritage Sites Open Day Event there is no charge for tickets but reserving seats is advised as already there has been considerable interest. Phone 01242 580077 (closed Mondays).
